Description of the attraction
The N. Roerich Museum of the International Center of the Roerichs in Moscow is a unique museum that keeps the rich heritage of the Roerichs. The museum is located in the center of Moscow, in the old estate of the Lopukhins. The first exhibition was opened at the museum on February 12, 1993. The director of the museum is L. Shaposhnikova.
The idea of creating a museum came from Svyatoslav Nikolaevich Roerich, a talented scientist, artist, thinker, teacher and public figure. Svetoslav Roerich conceived a museum - a community center. He believed that the organization of culture should not be state. In his opinion, it should be public. Due to its independence, the museum has the opportunity to widely use new approaches and initiatives in its activities. Has the possibility of diversified international cooperation, without departmental barriers. These principles made it possible to create in Russia, in Moscow, a unique cultural center - the Museum of the 21st century, with new cultural and historical tasks.
The funds of the museum consist of the most interesting materials donated to the museum in 1990 by Svetoslav Roerich. The Roerichs' heritage is exceptionally rich in a philosophical, artistic and scientific sense. It is an example of a cosmic worldview.
The main place in the heritage of the Roerichs is occupied by the Living Ethics - the philosophy of cosmic reality. It reveals the closest relationship between Man and the Cosmos. It helps people to understand the features of the approaching evolutionary stage in the process of human development.
The exposition, developed and thought out in detail by the director of the museum L. Shaposhnikova, reflects the main stages of the creative and life path of N. and S. Roerichs. Introduces museum visitors to their selfless activities.
Unusual exhibits create a unique spiritual and energetic atmosphere in the halls of the museum. Visitors can feel the special aura of the museum. The Roerichs' canvases allow one to feel the infinity and grandeur of the world, the cosmic attitude of the artists. Colors and symbols in the paintings of the artists reflect the philosophical ideas inherent in Living Ethics.
Rare books and monographs can be seen in the Roerich Memorial Library. The museum exposition uses personal items and various things of the Roerichs with whom they traveled, a lot of photographic documents. A collection of antique bronze items from the Kullu valley.
The museum organizes traveling exhibitions of the museum's extensive collection of paintings in Russia and abroad. The collection of the museum is constantly replenished thanks to patrons of the arts.
