Theater of Drama and Musical Comedy. T. G. Shevchenko in Kryvyi Rih is the main cultural center of the city, which is located at 23 Karl Marx Avenue. The building of the city theater in its significance represents the historical, cultural and artistic value of Kryvyi Rih.
History of the Kryvyi Rih Theater of Drama and Musical Comedy. T. Shevchenko originates from the creation in 1934 in the city of the theater "Kryvbas", the repertoire of which mainly consisted of heroic and pathetic works, which were dedicated to the military and labor exploits of the Soviet people. But even in such performances, the actors of the first generation created vivid and distinctive images that brought the theater creative success. As for the building itself, in which the creative team is now working, it was erected in 1951.
During the Great Patriotic War, the cast of the Krivoy Rog Theater was taken to the Krasnoyarsk Territory, where the theater continued its activities. After the liberation of Ukraine, the evacuated theater returned to Krivoy Rog, where structural changes awaited it. Half of its actors were sent to the Russian Drama Theater. T. Shevchenko, who moved from Dneprodzerzhinsk to Krivoy Rog. In 1966, the theater was renamed the Music and Drama Theater, and in 1981 it received its modern name - the Theater of Drama and Musical Comedy named after I. T. G. Shevchenko.
In 1984, the theater. T. Shevchenko on his 50th anniversary from the date of foundation and for all his successes in the development of Soviet theatrical art was awarded a diploma of the Presidium of the Verkhovna Rada of the Ukrainian SSR.
Over the course of many decades of creative activity, the theater collective has staged hundreds of classical operas and operettas, vaudeville and works of Russian drama. Some performances turned out to be so good and popular that they have not left the posters for several seasons.
