Description of the attraction
The Tandania Aboriginal Study Center is a unique destination for those looking to get to know and experience Australia's amazing Aboriginal culture.
"Tandania" the aborigines called the area on which Adelaide was built and on which they lived and performed their rituals for many millennia.
The center was founded in 1989 and is today the oldest Aboriginal cultural center in Australia, employing only Aboriginal people. In the halls of "Tandania" you can see the works of both beginners and internationally recognized artists. Here you can also hear the playing of an ancient wind instrument - didjiridu, which is a two-meter wooden or bamboo pipe, and find out what ritual significance certain sounds have. Colorful performances of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ritual dances will use body language to tell you about the life of the local tribes.
In the souvenir shop, you can not only buy crafts of Australian aborigines, but also learn first-hand about their sacred meanings. Well, in a local cafe, you just need to try dishes of traditional Australian Aboriginal cuisine. Not far from Tandania is Raymill Park.
