Lisbon is the dream of many people, one of the most romantic corners of Europe, located in the cozy bay of Mar la Paglia, on the banks of the Tagus River, a few kilometers from the Atlantic Ocean. A city with a rich history and luxurious architecture, beautiful palaces and crooked cobbled streets of old mansions, it lives, enjoying every minute of it. And the fact that the city has no direct access to the sea is perceived quite calmly in Lisbon, because it is worth taking a train, and now it is the great and beautiful Atlantic Ocean.
Like all coastal European corners, Lisbon is located in a Mediterranean climate zone with hot weather conditions. It has mild warm winters and sultry summers. The air temperature in the warm season can reach 50 °, although it usually remains in the range of 30-35 °. In winter, Lisbon residents enjoy excellent weather at + 18 ° and they are completely unaware of frosts and even more so blizzards.
The same applies to the water, although, given that we have an ocean in front of us, it is always several degrees lower than in the sea. For lovers of tropical latitudes, the water in the Atlantic may seem cool at first. This sensation is enhanced against the backdrop of the scorching heat and the scorching sun. On average, the ocean temperature in summer is about 23 °, in winter it drops to 10-15 °.
The swimming season at the sea in Lisbon lasts from May to October, but the ocean has time to warm up well only by June; in May, not everyone dares to swim here. The climax of bathing passions comes in July-August, when the beaches are overflowing with vacationers who want to get a small portion of freshness and coolness.
Lisbon beaches
As mentioned, Lisbon is not located on the ocean coast, although the string of resorts starting from here is referred to as the Lisbon Riviera. All beaches are located outside the city and in neighboring settlements, a few stops by train from the central station. And the first on the way is the Kashias beach. It is semi-wild, not equipped, but the water here is not so salty due to the confluence of the rivers.

Underwater world
The underwater world of the Atlantic is incredibly rich, it is similar to the area of the sea, with the only difference that there is more of everything here. More colorful fish, more colorful vegetation, more animals and corals.
It is home to about two hundred species of fish of all shapes, sizes and colors. Dozens of types of algae and other flora. Many caves, grottoes, tunnels, underwater canyons and unexplored corners.
The bottom of the Atlantic Ocean is covered with colonies of posidonias, brown, green and red algae, zosteras, and now and then you come across multi-colored sponges.
Oysters, lobsters, octopuses, squids, crabs, and lobsters are found in coastal waters. There are anchovies, moray eels, stingrays, jellyfish, starfish, flying fish, seahorses and hedgehogs, mussels, cuttlefish. Far away from the coast, if you're lucky, you can meet with dolphins and whales. And the presence of mackerel, sardines, tuna, cod makes sea fishing popular.

The presence of large and intense waves makes it possible to go in for sea sports. There are excellent conditions for surfing and windsurfing, as well as kite surfing. Along the coast, they ride water skis and parachutes, boats and motor boats, jet skis, sail and snorkel, do rowing and everything that is so popular at sea, in Lisbon all kinds of recreation are possible, for which excellent opportunities have been created.
