The island is located in a rather inaccessible area, so the journey to Koh Samui takes a considerable amount of time. Unfortunately, there are no direct flights from Moscow and other Russian cities to the island. This fact is explained by the great distance and peculiarities of the location of Koh Samui. The only way to get to the island from Russia is with a connecting flight in Bangkok, from where there are many options to get to Koh Samui.

The island operates around the clock international airport Koh Samui Airport, receiving daily a large number of flights from different countries, including from Russia. In order to get to the island, you need to ask your tour operator for detailed information in advance and purchase tickets to Bangkok. If you want to save money, then it is better to buy a ticket for a flight with two connections.

From Bangkok

When you arrive in Bangkok, you will have a wide range of options for getting to the island. Among the most popular are: an airplane; bus; train.

The flight is considered an expensive way, but it saves a lot of time. You will spend about an hour on the way, and it will not be difficult to buy a ticket, since about 10-12 direct flights run from Bangkok to Koh Samui every day. Separately, it should be noted that the price of a ticket for a morning flight may be 20-30% cheaper. All flights from Bangkok are operated from two airports located in the city.

The bus is ideal for travelers wishing to get to Koh Samui within a reasonable amount. The cost of the trip varies from 350 to 1000 baht, depending on the level of comfort. It is preferable to purchase tickets for buses equipped with air conditioning and comfortable sleeping places, since you will spend about 13 hours on the road. All buses leave from either Bangkok South Station or Khaosan Road Station. After arriving on the island, you will sail to Koh Samui by ferry.

As for the train, in Thailand this type of travel is also very popular among the locals. The only drawback is the many changes along the way. First, the train departs from Hua Lampong Central Station and arrives in Surat Thani 10 hours later. Next, you should buy a bus ticket and drive about 2 more hours to Chumphon, from where you will sail to Koh Samui for another 4 hours.

From Pattaya

Tourists sometimes combine their vacation in Thailand with visiting several resort areas at once. Therefore, it is important to know how you can get to Koh Samui from Pattaya. There are two options: by bus; by plane.

The most demanded tickets are for regular and intercity buses, which regularly run between Pattaya and Koh Samui. The main carrier is the private company Roong Reuang Coach, which organizes three daily routes from Pattaya to Koh Samui. The total travel time is about 12-13 hours. Tickets can be purchased both at the North station of Pattaya and at the company's specialized office. Separately, it should be noted that it is better to use the services of an intercity carrier. Tourist buses in Pattaya are not in good technical condition.

Plane is an affordable way to travel from Pattaya to Koh Samui. From Utopao Airport, the famous Thai airline Bangkok Airways offers a flight that lasts about 1 hour. In some cases, the aircraft makes a connection in Phuket, which automatically increases the travel time.

From Phuket

The distance between these two popular Thai destinations is 300-310 kilometers. There are two ways to overcome this distance: by plane; by bus and ferry.

Having bought a plane ticket, be sure that you will be on Koh Samui in 50 minutes. At the same time, 8-10 direct flights depart to Samui airport every day, which means that you will not have any problems with purchasing tickets.

Many tourists choose the bus service, which is perfectly established between Koh Samui and Phuket. It is better to look at the schedule in advance, as the carrier has the right to change the place of picking up passengers. Buses leave from the central station of Phuket, and then arrive at Don Sak pier, where the ferry will already be waiting for you. A significant plus is that the initial cost of the ticket includes the price of the ferry ride.

It is worth mentioning the branded bus carriers that focus specifically on tourists. Thus, the Phantip Travel company has a developed route network in Thailand and many offices in Phuket. For 400 baht you will be taken from the island to the pier, and also taken by ferry to Koh Samui.
