The capital of the country of a thousand smiles pleases guests with stable hot weather and an impressive cultural heritage. Royal palaces, ancient Buddhist temples, quaint pagoda turrets, stunning tropical parks - Bangkok's treasures seem countless. And, probably, many would like to combine the study of this wealth with a beach vacation, which is the main reason for traveling to Thailand. Well, this is quite real, despite the fact that there is no sea in Bangkok.
The territory of the City of Angels, as one of the versions translates the name of the capital, lies along the banks of the king-river Chao Phraya, which flows into the Gulf of Thailand. It was this part of the South China Sea that gave the capital region the world-famous beaches, covered with soft white sand and surrounded by dense undergrowth of palm trees.
Weather and climate in the Gulf of Thailand
From Bangkok to the coast of the Gulf of Thailand about 30 kilometers, which is easily overcome by bus or car. Therefore, you can quickly and without any problems get to the beaches beckoning with sea breezes.
The Gulf of Thailand, although large enough in area and washing the shores of several countries at once, including Vietnam and Cambodia, is still shallow - its average depth barely reaches 46 meters. But under these meters are hidden masterpieces of nature, grandiose in beauty and diversity - colorful coral reefs, myriads of rainbow inhabitants, stunning vegetation. And all this can be seen and even touched.
Moreover, the climate of Bangkok condones this. All year round, thermometer marks hold more than 30 degrees of tropical heat. Even in the coldest months, the temperature does not drop below 29 °. There are practically no seasonal temperature fluctuations here, even during the rainy season the weather remains warm.
The sea in Bangkok is also notable for its constancy, or rather in its area - here the indicators froze at around 28 ° many years ago and are in no hurry to change. On especially hot days, the water in the sea warms up to a record 30 °. That, on the one hand, pleases vacationers - you can swim for hours without experiencing discomfort, and on the other hand, it negatively affects the vegetation of the bay - many coral colonies have already died from rising water temperatures, others are threatened with extinction.
The best time to travel to the sea in Thailand is from November to April. In the rest of the months, tropical showers and monsoon season reign over Bangkok. Although the showers are short-lived, there is a chance to splash in sea water even in the midst of a rainy period.
The Gulf of Thailand is home to many colorful islands, most of which are uninhabited. And its silty-sandy bottom is periodically diluted by coral reefs and gardens. The sea is ideal for all kinds of recreation, from the classic "seal" to active and extreme hobbies.
Where to go?
A few kilometers from the capital, a string of famous beach resorts begins, where first-class hotels, breakaway entertainment and the sea are always available, you will not find such an abundance in Bangkok.
The main resorts near Bangkok:
- Pattaya;
- Huahin;
- Koh Samet island;
- Koh Chang island.
The nature of the Gulf of Thailand
The indescribable brightness of colors and a variety of life forms are an excellent reason to visit the sea, in Bangkok you can purchase the equipment necessary for diving and enlist the help of instructors to dive into the depths of the sea safely and comfortably.
And here sardines, stingrays, moray eels, turtles, scorpion fish, butterfly fish, angel fish, sponges, reef sharks, barracudas, shrimps, crabs, squids, groupers, octopuses are already waiting.
Do not forget that many underwater inhabitants pose a serious danger - they can be poisonous or bite painfully. Moray eels, sea urchins, stone fish, cones, sea snakes, blue-finned balistodes and a spectacular starfish with the symbolic name "crown of thorns" are dangerous for divers.
And, of course, coral reefs, polyps, sea lilies, algae, grass, bizarre shells - all this creates a fabulous picture of the sea kingdom. Visibility in the water is 5-15 meters, in some areas the water is so transparent that you can even see what is at a distance of 20-30 meters.
It is best to dive to the underwater beauty in the area of the islands. The islands of Ko Rin, Ko Pai, Ko San, Ko Krok deserve good recommendations.
