To Vienna from Rome by train

Railway companies cannot yet offer direct trains connecting the capitals of Italy and Austria, but with transfers in Innsbruck, Mestre or Padova, you will reach your destination in about 12 hours. The fare will be about 150 euros. If you book your tickets well in advance, there is a chance to get them a little cheaper. The central railway station is located in the Italian capital at the address: Piazzale dei Cinquecento, 00185 and is called Roma Termini:

  • The station's opening hours are from 4.30 to 1.30, but passengers will be able to use public toilets or leave their luggage in the storage room around the clock.

  • The station offers convenient infrastructure for passengers waiting for the train. In the waiting rooms you can exchange currency or withdraw cash from your card at an ATM. You can dine in a restaurant or cafe, and in Termini stores you can buy souvenirs or food for the trip.
  • For the needs of tourists, the station has a post office, travel agencies and information kiosks.

The easiest way to get to Termini Train Station is to take the Rome Metro. You will need the station of the same name, located at the intersection of lines A and B. Bus routes 105, 16, 38 and 92, and trams 5 and 14 also follow Termini.

How to get from Rome to Vienna by bus

The bus service between the two capitals is supported by several European carriers:

  • Student Agency's prices are traditionally one of the lowest. Especially when it comes to booking tickets in advance. The fare from Rome to Vienna will be about 70 euros, and you will have to spend 15.5 hours on the road. The bus travels through Florence, Venice and Austrian Graz. To get from Rome to Vienna, car enthusiasts often rent a car. The road takes at least 12 hours, but tourists spend this time surrounded by beautiful natural landscapes. When you are about to hit the road, check out some useful information:

  • In European countries, there are very serious fines for violating traffic rules, and therefore they should be strictly observed.
  • The cost of one liter of fuel is approximately 1.2 and 1.6 euros in Austria and Italy, respectively.
  • To travel on toll roads in Austria, you need to purchase a special permit - a vignette. They are sold at checkpoints at border crossings and at gas stations. To travel on Italian toll roads, a vignette is not required and services are paid after the fact on the spot and in accordance with the road tariffs.

Do not forget that parking is paid on weekdays and during the day in most European cities. The price of the issue in Italy and Austria is approximately 2 euros per hour for a passenger vehicle.
