Description of the attraction
The Exaltation Church of the village of Nikitintsy is the main attraction of this region. The village itself is located in the Kosiv region, Ivano-Frankivsk region, on the banks of the Pistynka River, 15 kilometers south of the city of Kolomyia.
Nikitinskaya wooden church of the Exaltation of the Honorable Cross was built in 1859, and the Exaltation temple that existed here since 1764 was converted into a bell tower. The entire complex was given the status of an architectural monument of national importance. The Exaltation Church belongs to the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. The temple day was set for September 27th.
The church is wooden cross in plan - one-domed, has very short lateral branches, it is encircled by the arch, which rests on the outlets of the crowns of the log cabins. Tiny wooden log cabins adjoin the eastern volume from the south and north. The central blockhouse rises noticeably above the rest to the ridge of the pitched roofs and bears a squat octagon with a slightly flattened head topped with one cupola. The main entrance to the temple looks very beautiful - it is decorated with a porch on carved columns. The entire building, except for the head, was sheathed with shingles.
The interior of the Church of the Exaltation is decorated with wall tempera painting of the 19th century. On the west side of the monument there is a wooden three-tiered bell tower with a wide outer gallery and a hipped roof, square in plan. It has a somewhat unusual ending: the bell tower's tent was crowned with five tiny domes - central and side, set in the corners. Two tiers - the first and the second - are chopped, and the upper one is frame. The floor (flooring) of the third tier on the lower side has painting of the 18th century (boards with painting, most likely, got here during the renovation).
The Church of the Exaltation of the village of Nikitintsy has the unique features of the Hutsul school of folk wooden architecture.
