Description of the attraction
Sartai Regional Park covers an area of 4,786 hectares and was founded around the fifth largest lake in Lithuania - Sartai. The main purpose of the park was to preserve the unique relief of the lake, cultural heritage and natural ecosystems. Horse races are held on the ice of Lake Sartai every winter.
The central and eastern part of the park is a hilly landscape with valleys. On the territory of Vosinos, marshes, the oldest and richest spruce forests of Dusetos, habitats of the rarest species are protected. The Sventoji River flows through the park and the lake. On it you can get to the southern part of the lake. After visiting the towns on the eastern side of the lake, you can return back to the river along the southwest branch. There are several routes for water tourists, with different lengths of time: from 1-4 days.
Lake Sartai has an area of over 13 km² and is a real paradise for water tourism lovers. There are a lot of various fish in the lake, and its size sometimes surprises even the most experienced anglers. Kayakers and sailing fans also come to Lake Sartai. Due to the fact that most of the beach around the lake is sandy, it is a great place to swim. Cyclists and pedestrians will be able to walk in the park, following several equipped educational paths in the forest.
One of them is “Jaskoniškės educational trail”, it runs through a sandy pine forest. Locals call it "Smalinichai" because people used to collect pine resin here. Walking through the pine forest, you will be interested to learn about the life of the forest and admire the beauty of Lake Sartai. On the stands in the forest, information is written about when the pine grows better, and when the spruce, when a spring appeared in the forest, and many other interesting facts.
The educational trail in Dusetskaya Pushcha runs through the zoo-botanical reserve of Dusetskaya Pushcha. The trail is about 3.4 km long and has 14 stops.
