Paphos districts, according to the map, divide this Cypriot resort into two parts - Lower and Upper Paphos.
Names, descriptions and attractions of the areas of Paphos
- Kato Paphos: on excursions, tourists will be invited to explore the Paphos Castle (the castle gates are connected to the harbor by an arched bridge; the square in front of it is the place where cultural events are held in the form of opera performances), the Church of the Holy Besserebrenniki (in this Orthodox church, the healers and miracle workers Cosmas and Damian), Panagia Theoskepasti (a silvered icon of the Most Holy Theotokos is kept here) and Agia Kyriaki (you can visit Orthodox services, for example, during the celebration of the day of Peter and Paul), go to the ancient Greek catacombs, one of which “sheltered” the holy spring (despite the fact that the source has become shallow, and the water in it has become cloudy due to the huge number of people who want to acquire healing moisture, it has not lost its properties - water brings special benefits to those suffering from eye diseases) and the chapel of St. Solomon. The catacombs are also famous for the cave of Agios Agapitikos (according to legend, lovers must go inside holding hands in order to live a long and happy life together without parting). In this part of the city, you will be able to see old houses decorated with ancient mosaics (you should take a photo of these houses) - theseus houses (there is a mosaic depicting Ariadne, Theseus and the Minotaur), Orpheus (mosaic panels depicting wild animals, Orpheus, brought fame to him, Amazon and Hercules) and Dionysus (you can see a mosaic canvas depicting a woman surrounded by personified seasons; there is also a mosaic composition dedicated to the harvest of grapes).
- Pano Paphos: a walk around this part of the city involves visiting the Bishop's Palace (it is recommended to visit the Byzantine Museum, which displays more than 100 icons of the 12-19 centuries, frescoes from destroyed churches, manuscripts, wood carvings, metal church products) and the Kebir mosque Jami (in its place until 1584 there was a Christian church), as well as the study of the Pedestrian Quarter (tourists will be waiting for interesting places in the form of cafes, shops with souvenir products and shops, as well as an ascent to the observation deck, from where their gaze will open a view of the whole of Paphos and at sea).
Where to stay for tourists
Paphos is home to many luxurious 4-5-star hotels that correspond to the name of the resort - its guests can stay in “Amalthia Beach” or “Elysium”, which resembles a medieval castle.
Travelers can stay in any part of Paphos - each of them has interesting attractions and entertainment, but in Upper Paphos you can find cheaper accommodation in the form of guest houses and small hotels.
Do you want to sit near the sea and admire the harbor and the castle of Paphos from the windows of the hotel? Take a closer look at “Louis Imperial Beach” (the center can be reached in 15 minutes using a free service in the form of delivering tourists to the center by bus).
