Description of the attraction
The Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky is located in a building that was previously the Rodina cinema. Today, shrines from all over the world are brought here, and it is here that all the most important Orthodox events of the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky take place.
In 1995, the building of the former Rodina cinema was officially transferred into the hands of the Petropavlovsk and Kamchatka dioceses. For 10 years there was a church in the name of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. In addition, the Diocesan Administration was located here, where Vladyka Ignatius and Vladyka Nestor conducted their pastoral ministry.
In September of the same year, the opening of the Spiritual and Educational Center took place here. The solemn ceremony was attended by the Governor of the Kamchatka Territory V. I. Ilyukhin, Bishop of the Petropavlovsk and Kamchatka Diocese Artemy, the head of the state administration of the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky urban district A. A. Valerievich and many other officials of the city and the region.
In 2012, thanks to the joint efforts of the Petropavlovsk and Kamchatka dioceses, the Kamchatka Territory and the governor, work began on the reconstruction of this center.
Today, the Spiritual and Educational Center is the most modern complex, which includes a church in the name of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, a magnificent auditorium with the latest equipment, a library, a cozy cafe, a children's theater and classrooms.
