Castes
People living in India belong to a particular caste.
To this day in India there are brahmanas (teachers, officials, dignitaries), kshatriyas (people serving in the army, as well as those who are in various administrative positions), vaisyas (people involved in financial and banking affairs), sudras (people subordinate to the higher castes).
Each caste is subdivided into podcasts, for example, there are castes such as tailors (Darzi) and scavengers (Bhangi).
Today, the caste system is not given such special importance as in antiquity, therefore, to move up the career ladder, a person's social affiliation will not be taken into account - first of all, he must have special individual qualities, the necessary knowledge and skills.
Traditions and customs of the Indian people
Mehendi. To preserve the marriage and prevent the infidelity of the spouse, it is customary for girls to draw beautiful henna patterns (mehendi) on their hands and feet on their wedding day, and the powder that remains after the procedure must be buried in the ground.
Holi. It is worth coming to India in March - the locals celebrate Holi (spring festival) at this time: you can watch a bright parade, performances by artists, lighted bonfires (the demon Holiki is burned on them). Well, the most interesting thing is that people sprinkle each other with colored powder and tinted water (for a holiday it is better to wear things that you do not feel sorry for, because this powder cannot be washed off).
If you are invited to a meal, you should accept the invitation (silence should be observed during meals).
Important: it is not necessary to try all the dishes that you see on the table, but it is considered good practice to eat everything that you put on your plate.
