The city of Chisinau is today called the most comfortable of all the cities of the Soviet development. It is a kind of Moldovan version of Moscow, differing from others in its versatility, noise and spontaneity. It is here that all the wealth of the republic is concentrated and its true cultural and historical center is located.
Currently, Chisinau is a modern and safe city, where a tourist can wander wherever he pleases, take photos, explore the sights or just walk the streets and relax in numerous cozy cafes and restaurants. However, modern gloss is nothing more than a veil under which the true essence of this glorious city is hidden. And the coat of arms of Chisinau, reflecting all its ancient traditions, can tell more about it.
History of the coat of arms
It should be noted that throughout the history of the city, the coat of arms has changed several times. This is due to the fact that since the 15th century, Chisinau began to arouse interest in neighboring states, and therefore it was often captured. The new owners often exerted a significant influence on the cultural life of the city, therefore, its official symbols changed many times.
The first mention of a modern coat of arms dates back to the beginning of the 19th century. It was then that the coat of arms acquired an azure color and was decorated with an eagle (although at first it was two-headed, according to the tradition of the Russian Empire).
The final sketch was from 1930, which is still used with minor changes. It should also be noted that it was drawn up under the provisional Romanian administration, however, as you can see, it contains everything that is necessary, since the townspeople still did not want to correct it.
Description of the coat of arms of Chisinau
In total, the composition contains the following elements: an azure-colored shield; Eagle; tower crown; buffalo head. The azure shield, which is the main background, in this case has a double interpretation. Firstly, it symbolizes the freedom and boundlessness of the sky, and secondly, the generosity and honesty of its citizens.
The eagle is a symbol of state power, as well as an attribute of supremacy, which should be inherent in every major capital. The tower crown is also a classic symbol, which means that the city is a major center.
The buffalo head, in turn, symbolizes the strength and resilience of the city, as well as their ability to withstand the hardships of life with dignity.
