Description of the attraction
Dnepropetrovsk Music and Drama Theater named after T. G. Shevchenko is an architectural monument of national importance. Interesting is the fact that the theater building was added by architects S. F. Bulatsel and D. N. Petravetsky in the form of a theater and concert hall to the then existing English club. And the birth of the Ukrainian Music and Drama Theater itself took place in 1918 in the city of Kiev as the first professional Ukrainian theater, which received the title of the State Drama Theater. In Dnepropetrovsk, the theater "received a registration" only in 1927, after nine years of successful tour of the cities of Ukraine.
The seventies of the 20th century were marked for the theater by updating and improving its exterior. The neighboring houses adjoining the theater building were dismantled, resulting in the exposure of the previously built-up facade. This was followed by the reconstruction of the building, organization and improvement of the area in front of it. However, despite all the innovations, the cartouches with the dates "1838" and "1913" on the façade, marking the founding of the English club and the date of its 75th anniversary, have been very successfully preserved. The facade of the building overlooking the newly formed square is decorated with a sculptural triptych reflecting the stages of the theater's creative development. The figure of the muse is crowned with a rounded corner of the theater building.
During its existence, the theater has presented the world with a whole galaxy of talented artists. 2004 brought the Musical and Drama Theater. TG Shevchenko the status of "academic". Today the theater is thriving, it is annually visited by a large number of both local connoisseurs of theatrical art and visiting guests.
