Even titled geographers are unlikely to answer the question of how many beaches there are in Greece. The country is washed by the Aegean, Ionian and Mediterranean seas and a traveler with a wide variety of preferences can easily choose a suitable resort in the Peloponnese or Crete.
Criterias of choice
The climatic features of the Greek resorts during the beach season are a lot of sun, hot dry weather, pleasant sea breezes and an almost complete absence of precipitation:
- The Peloponnese, located a little to the north, receives the first tourists already at the end of April. The sea at its resorts warms up to comfortable temperatures for the May holidays, and at the height of summer the temperature of the water and air reaches + 26 ° C and + 34 ° C, respectively.
- In Crete, the swimming season lasts a little longer, and tourists on the beaches meet in early November. The northern coast of the largest Greek island is less hot than the southern one. Thermometer columns on the beaches of Crete in July and August often cross the + 35 ° C mark.
Flights to Greece in the high season can be expensive, and therefore it is more profitable to buy them in advance:
- Charters fly to the airports of the Peloponnese from the capital of Russia in the summer. There are regular flights from Moscow to Athens, where you can transfer to domestic ones. The flight takes about 3.5 hours, and the ticket costs from 24,000 rubles.
- It is a little easier to get to the island of Crete, and in the summer, tourists are delivered to the international airport of Heraklion by charters and planes of regular flights. You will have to pay about 20,000 rubles for a ticket, and spend from 3 hours 40 minutes on the way.
Both a fan of luxury holidays and a representative of an unpretentious tourist brotherhood, for whom the main thing is a roof over their heads and basic amenities, will be able to find a suitable hotel in any Greek resort:
- A typical "treshka" in Crete will cost $ 55- $ 60 per night, with breakfast usually already included in the price. All-inclusive hotels, loved by Russian guests, can also be found on the island.
- On the Peloponnese peninsula, the tourist infrastructure is not so ideally developed, and therefore the choice of hotels is small. But a room in a 3 * hotel will cost from $ 40 per day, and the list of options will certainly include Wi-Fi, a swimming pool and parking.
All hotels in Greece correspond to the European "star" system and are characterized by guests very positively.
The beaches of the Peloponnese or Crete?
The Peloponnese peninsula is washed by the Ionian and Aegean seas. Its coastline is suitable for a comfortable stay for both children and adults. Ideal beaches for swimming with the whole family stretch in the south of the Peloponnese in the regions of Corinthia and Achaea. The entrance to the water there is shallow, the sea warms up faster, and its shores are covered with clean and soft sand. Lovers of clear water and pebbles at the bottom go to the resort of Sykia, on the coast of which the Blue Flags proudly fly.
Crete can respond with hundreds of kilometers of sandy beaches and cozy rocky coves, as if created for solitude and meditation. Water activities on the beaches of Crete are very popular, and therefore fans of active summer holidays choose the island.
