The capital of France is a special city. In addition to architectural landmarks, it can offer its guests a rich program of concerts, exhibitions and festivals. The Parisian holidays are fashion weeks, concerts of famous musicians, and gastronomic exhibitions with demonstration performances by world-famous culinary masters.

Let's take a look at the calendar

The abundance of Parisian events can be divided into two groups - those that the city celebrates together with the whole world, and their own, which take place with a special Parisian charm. Familiar to everyone, important calendar dates look typical for Europe:

  • In the capital of France, it is customary to congratulate lovely ladies on March 8 and each other on May Day Labor Day. The true signs of both holidays are flower bouquets. Parisian women love violets, and blooming lilies of the valley become a sign of the coming May.
  • Victory Day on May 8 and the end of World War I on November 11 are special dates. France took part in both wars and lost many of its citizens both on the battlefields and among civilians. Events dedicated to the memory of heroes are held in many concert halls, galleries and just on city streets. Parisians hold special ceremonies at the Arc de Triomphe.
  • On January 25, the country celebrates Christmas. Elegant squares, fireworks and special discounts in stores are becoming the main Christmas signs, smoothly flowing into New Year's.

How Bastille surrendered …

Midsummer is marked by the most famous Parisian holiday. On July 14, the country celebrates Bastille Day, the storming of which happened during the French Revolution of 1789.

The program of festive events includes the Bastille Parade on the Champs Elysees, traditionally starting at 10 am, and evening fireworks. The tourist office recommends that travelers gather on the Champ de Mars and in the gardens near the Eiffel Tower in order to see everything with their own eyes and take the best photos.

Other summer festivities in Paris include the Plein Air Film Festival at the Parc de la Villette and the Tour de France cycling race, which finishes on the last Sunday in July under the Arc de Triomphe.

Fashion, music and young wine

The Rock en Siene music festival on the last weekend of August brings together the best rock bands on the western outskirts of the capital. In mid-September, the best DJs showcase their skills, whose five-day performance ends with a large Techno parade from Place de la Bastille to the Sorbonne.

Paris Fashion Weeks are celebrations for all shopping and art lovers. On the first Saturday of October, the women's Pret-a-Porter collection is traditionally shown for next summer, and in March, at the Couturier's Spring Fashion Week, they tell what the planet will wear next winter.

Gourmets from all over the world are waiting for the third Thursday of November. The beginning of the Christmas season is traditionally celebrated with Le Beaujolais Nouveau. On this day, the first bottles of the new crop of Beaujolais appear in stores.
