Description of the attraction
The Polim Museum is one of the attractions of the city of Berane, which is located in the north-east of the country. The exhibits presented in the museum were found during various archaeological excavations. It is known that this area was occupied by settlers as early as 2300-1800 BC, in the so-called Bronze Age. This fact explains the variety of exhibits.
The exhibits of the museum reflect different eras, clearly showing their change. The Neolithic is represented by simple pottery, decorated with ornaments and unpretentious patterns. More recent archaeological finds include arrowheads, women's jewelry, copper and ceramic dishes. Since Montenegro was under the influence of the Greek and Roman conquerors for a long time, the result of this was that the ancient culture left a tangible mark on the history of this country.
In the Byzantine period, that is, around the 6th century. AD ancient traditions continue to exist, but in a simplified form. In the VII century. AD the territories of modern Montenegro began to be mastered by the Slavs. This period is represented by such archaeological exhibits as: architectural fragments with carved decor, stone frescoes and household items.
All new archaeological objects and artifacts that can be found during excavations near Berane are transferred to the possession of the Polim Museum.
In addition, the museum seeks to take part in the modern life of the city. Relatively recently, ceremonial parts of the wedding ceremony began to be held here. This step, the museum administration hopes, will help revitalize and renew interest in ancient rituals and culture, which will attract not only new tourists, but also local residents.
