Description of the attraction
The Cathedral of Volodymyr Equal to the Apostles is a functioning cathedral of the Lugansk diocese. It is located in the city of Lugansk on Vladimirskaya Square (at the intersection of Stankostroitelnaya, Kherson and Gudovantsev Streets). It houses the throne of Vladimir Equal to the Apostles.
The cathedral was laid in April 1993, and Leonid Kuchma, the former president of Ukraine, took part in laying the first stone of this temple. In 2006, on March 19, the solemn consecration of the cathedral took place. Today the Cathedral of Volodymyr Equal of the Apostles is the largest religious building in the south-east of Ukraine. The cathedral is large enough to accommodate about three thousand parishioners. It was built on a high and open place, so that this majestic and beautiful structure can be seen from afar.
The cathedral was erected from 1995 to 2006. The project of this wonderful and majestic temple was developed by the diocesan architect Bondarev A.
The area of the cathedral is 2681 square meters. The building of the cathedral is made in the form of a cross with dimensions: from south to north - 44 meters, and from east to west - 51 meters. The height of the temple from the base to the very top of the cross crowning the dome of the temple is 65 meters. The cathedral has about 15 bells.
Currently, the rector of the Cathedral of Vladimir Equal to the Apostles is Vladimir Kononchuk, who has been performing this mission since 1992. Lugansk Theological University is located in a complex with this cathedral.
