Description of the attraction
The huge Historical Museum of Kyrgyzstan, located in a parallelepiped-shaped building erected in 1984 on Ala-Too Square in Bishkek, was founded in 1926. In those days, the exposition of the museum occupied only a few rooms in the home of M. V. Frunze. The museum has changed its name several times throughout its existence. At first it was called Central, then Regional Studies. Finally, in 1954, it became known as the National Museum of History.
The museum funds contain about 90 thousand items telling about the history, ethnography, archeology and folk arts of Kyrgyzstan. The museum covers an area of more than 8 thousand square meters. and consists of 11 departments.
In the exposition of the museum, you can find objects that give an idea of the ancient history of the state: about the existence of primitive tribes, about the life and traditions of nomadic peoples, about the era of the appearance of the first settlements. The museum contains a collection of jewelry of past centuries, magnificent examples of embroidery and folk costumes. There are also products of Kyrgyz artisans made of various materials, as well as objects of their labor. Luxurious carpets, felt shoes, harness for horses - which is just not there.
Part of the exposition is dedicated to the Soviet period. Here are collected documents, photographs, personal belongings of people who stood at the head of the republic, paintings of that era, gifts from foreign countries, etc. The museum is also famous for an excellent selection of edged weapons and coins.
The National Historical Museum will be of interest to absolutely all tourists.
