It is best to go to the capital of Armenia in April or early May, when apricots are blooming in the gardens. It was this fruit that became the symbol of a small mountain republic, called by the Armenians themselves the land of apricots and stones. If you are looking for an answer to the question of how to get to Yerevan, consider not only direct flights, but also the route through Georgia. So you will be able to combine a trip to two of the most beautiful states on the world map and see many attractions that are considered one of the oldest in the region.

Choosing wings

Several airlines operate direct regular flights from Moscow airports to Yerevan Zvartnots:

  • Ural Airlines flies from Moscow Domodedovo to Yerevan every day. The ticket price starts from 150 euros, and the flight duration is 2.5-3 hours.
  • The Russian carrier S7 estimates its services a little more - from 170 euros. Tickets on board Utair cost about the same. The former fly from Domodedovo, the latter from Vnukovo.
  • Aeroflot, whose hub is located in Sheremetyevo, is traditionally expensive - from 220 euros for a round-trip ticket. In the sky, its passengers spend a little less than 3 hours.

To get to the capital of Armenia from St. Petersburg and other Russian cities will have to go through Moscow. There are no direct flights to Zvartnots.

The international airport of the Armenian capital is located just 12 km from the city center. You can get to Yerevan by taxi or public transport. A taxi will cost 5-6 euros, but it is better to negotiate the price "on the shore". Route taxis NN107 and 108 go to the city center. Buses of the N201 route also go there. The fare for public transport is approximately 0.5 euros. The stop is located at the exit from the arrivals hall.

How to get to Yerevan by bus

Despite the long journey from Moscow to the capital of Armenia, buses regularly leave. The place of their start is the metro stations Tsaritsyno, Yugo-Zapadnaya and Domodedovskaya. The bus covers 3000 kilometers separating cities in no less than two days, and therefore it is difficult to call this way to get to Yerevan the most convenient. But the fare of 40 euros can be considered an advantage of this type of transport. Tickets can be bought on the spot or booked in advance and purchased on the carrier's website - www.avazar-bus.am.

The Avazar company has existed since 1998 and over the years has earned considerable authority both among competitors and passengers. The company's buses leave at 4 pm from the Tsaritsyno metro station on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Their passengers spend about 42 hours on the way. The ticket price includes the possibility of carrying 30 kg of luggage and hand luggage. The route passes through Lipetsk, Voronezh, Rostov-on-Don, Georgia.

The Avazar company offers its passengers a European level of service and comfort:

  • All buses of the carrier are equipped with an air conditioning system.
  • On the way, passengers can use individual sockets to charge their phones and tablets.
  • Each bus has a dry closet and hot drinks preparation system.

The car is not a luxury

The ideal trip from Russia to Armenia can be taken by car as well. To get to Yerevan, you will first have to get to Vladikavkaz, not far from which there is a road transport checkpoint on the border with Georgia. It is called Upper Lars. To travel, you will need an international driver's license, and when crossing the border, you will have to issue a permit to import a car and pay a customs fee.

Useful information for motorists:

  • The checkpoint in Upper Lars is open around the clock. Check the weather forecast before planning your trip. In case of snowfall or heavy rain, the road through the pass and the checkpoint, respectively, may be closed to vehicles.
  • Russian citizens do not need a visa to cross the Georgian and Armenian border.
  • The cost of a liter of fuel in Georgia and Armenia is approximately 0, 9 and 0, 7 euros, respectively.
  • When entering the territory of Armenia from Georgia, you will have to pay a fee for using the roads. One passenger car is charged an amount equal to 20 euros for 15 days. Another payment is a tax for the emission of harmful substances into the atmosphere. It is about 5 euros per car.
  • Armenia, unlike Georgia, has adopted a law on compulsory civil liability insurance while driving. An insurance policy is required when crossing the border. Its cost for a passenger car for 10 days in the country will be about 5 euros if the driver has reached the age of 23.

You can get to Yerevan as well as to other Armenian cities by car from Russia only from the territory of Georgia. Entry from Azerbaijan or Turkey is not possible.

Under the sound of wheels

There is currently no direct rail link between Russia and Armenia, but if you have very cheap air tickets to Tbilisi, having arrived there, you can get to Yerevan from Georgia by train.

The cost of a full ticket in a reserved seat is about 17 euros, in a compartment - about 26 euros. The return train N372 runs from Yerevan to Tbilisi on even days.

You can find out detailed information about the railway communication between the two Transcaucasian capitals and buy a train ticket on the website of the South Caucasian Railways - www.ukzhd.am.

All prices in the material are approximate and given as of February 2017. It is better to check the exact fare on the official websites of the carriers.
