Description of the attraction

Alberese is a rural settlement in southern Tuscany, district of the commune of Grosseto. It is located 20 km south-west of Grosseto itself, in the center of the Maremma Natural Park. It is reliably known that even in the prehistoric period, some local caves were inhabited by people. In one of them - Scogletto - artifacts of the Bronze Age and the era of Ancient Rome have been preserved. And in the town of Talamone, you can find traces of the Etruscan and Roman periods.

The area of present-day Alberese, dominated by the imposing Villa Grandukale, has developed over the past two centuries, thanks to the adoption of a law on free ownership and distribution of agricultural land to peasants who arrived from Veneto and Northern Italy.

Despite the presence of humans, the surrounding wilderness with its hunting grounds and vast flower meadows has survived. Today it is protected by the Maremma Natural Park and a number of local laws. Herds of wild horses and cows still roam the local fields and meadows, and deer and bears live in the dense forests of the Monti Uccellini mountains. Each season in Alberese has its own charm and color: ocher in autumn and winter, green in spring and yellow in summer. In summer, dandelion fields are interspersed with wheat fields, and on a sunny day it is easy to witness the optical phenomenon of Fata Morgana.

Among the attractions of Alberese, it is worth noting the aforementioned Villa Grandukale, the churches of Sant Antonio Abate and Santa Maria, the Abbey of San Rabano, the Uccellina hermitage, the Uccellina towers, Castel Marino and Collelungo and the archaeological area of Scoletto.
