In an area where you live there is a lot of rubbish and few trees? Or, on the contrary, is it clean and green? But whatever it is, for sure it is a thousand times better than the places that we will talk about here. These places are more like the scenery for the apocalypse movies. And people live there all their lives. After reading this text, you will understand how lucky you are with the place of residence.

City of Sun

Nice name, isn't it? It beckons to visit this place. But we do not advise you to go to the "sunny city"! When you see this area, you will be horrified.

It is located on one of the outskirts of the Haitian capital. People here live among heaps of garbage that no one takes out. Local residents know about what a sewage system is only by hearsay. A nearby prison has recently escaped 3,000 death row prisoners. Crime and viruses reign on the territory of the district. To put it mildly, not the most pleasant place for tourist walks. And even more so - for permanent residence.

Ciudad Juarez

This "wonderful" place is located in Mexico. A large part of the population here is dying a violent death. The rampant crime here is catastrophic - without any exaggeration. Moreover, the exact number of those killed is unknown: many people simply go missing.

A war of criminal gangs has been waged here for many years. The drug trade is flourishing. Not a single woman feels completely safe here: rape is very frequent.

Small farm

This is how one of the districts of Rio de Janeiro is called in translation into Russian. But you will not see any farmers or farms here. Residents here are busy with completely different things. Here are their favorite activities:

  • drug trafficking;
  • robberies;
  • prostitution.

However, oddly enough, some tourists in search of thrills tend to this area. And, I must say, gradually its appearance is changing. It is becoming more and more touristy and law-abiding.

Dharavi

Interestingly, sometimes a slum can be located in the center of a large city. An example is Mumbai.

Once upon a time there was a swamp. It is symbolic that the poorest district of the city arose exactly in this place. Moreover, no one drained the swamp on purpose: it dried up by itself.

People here huddle in tiny huts with ridiculous rents. Interestingly, not all of them are beggars. Some are just saving. The warm climate makes it possible to put up with such living conditions. At least for a while.

Hayelitsha

Scary things are said about this area of the capital of South Africa. Judging by these stories, the scripts of horror films are simply embodied here. Not only is poverty and AIDS reigning here, there is also plenty of space for rats. They grow to gigantic proportions. There are individuals the size of a well-fed cat. One of them killed a child. After that, it is said that she ate his eyes.

Almost none of the local residents work anywhere. Not because they don't want to, but simply because the unemployment rate is going off scale here.

Doghouse

That was what the slums of Hong Kong should have been called. The fact is that until recently it was customary to rent out to tenants … dog cages. And people willingly paid a lot of money for living in them. And what to do: overpopulation, lack of housing …

Then this story became known to the media. Photos of people huddled in cages scattered around the world. After that, the situation changed. Now no one in the city lives in dog cages. Now tenants are provided with … cardboard boxes. They say that living there is much more comfortable.

If you don't like your area or work far from home, think of these slums. You will realize that in fact you are very lucky. And when traveling abroad, try to avoid the places we have listed.
