The capital of Armenia is of interest to tourists with the opportunity to see the pre-revolutionary buildings on Abovyan Street, visit the botanical garden, zoo, water park “Water World” and other noteworthy places.
Grand Cascade
The cascade is an original architectural composition with stairways, at different levels of which there are flowerbeds with fresh flowers, sculptures and fountains (illumination turns on in the evening). Climbing up the stairs (more than 670 steps will have to be overcome) or the escalator (it is located under the Cascade; the climb will be accompanied by a survey of installations and examples of modern art, since there are exhibition galleries inside the Cascade), travelers will be able to admire the beauty of Yerevan. It is worth noting that open-air concerts are often held at the base of the Cascade (spectators are seated directly on the steps, which are decorated with travertine), in particular in honor of the jazz festival.
Monument to David Sasunsky
The 12-meter sculpture of David, riding a horse, is set on a block of basalt and occupies the central part of the 25-meter pool. Travelers should go around the monument in order to better view it from all sides (pay attention to the plate, which contains information about the monument), as well as to capture it in photographs.
Monument "Mother Armenia"
The famous 22-meter monument (together with the pedestal reaches a height of more than 50 m) is an adornment of Victory Park and a symbol of the greatness and power of the Motherland. At the base of the monument, travelers will find a museum (free admission), where they will be able to get acquainted with the exhibits in the form of documents, portraits of heroes, weapons, personal belongings and other things related to the Karabakh and Great Patriotic Wars. In addition, they will be able> to inspect the weapons of that time (more precisely, samples) installed around the pedestal, as well as see the Eternal Flame burning in memory of the fallen heroes.
Republic Square
This square is considered another symbol of Yerevan, where visitors to the Armenian capital may be interested in visiting the following objects:
- The Government House (the main chimes of the country are the decoration of the tower of the building);
- Museum of the History of Armenia (having examined about 400,000 items in the form of banners, books, household items, bone products, three-dimensional panoramas, decorations and other things, visitors will get acquainted with the history of Armenia up to our time);
- Hotel “Marriott Armenia”.
It should be noted that the decoration of all buildings on the square, faced with pink and white tuff, is a delicate carving with a national ornament. And in front of the museum, tourists will be able to admire the “singing” fountains that change color at nightfall.
