Description of the attraction
The symbol of the city of Vinnitsa is the Water Tower. This architectural monument was erected from the original red brick according to the project of the Vinnitsa architect G. Artynov as the basis for the city water supply. The tower is located in the pedestrian zone of the city, among green chestnuts and old houses, in the park named after Kozitsky.
During the Great Patriotic War, the tower was used as an observation post, from where they monitored the progress of hostilities outside the city, since there was an excellent view from the tower site. In the post-war years, the Water Tower was used as living quarters for workers of the local water utility.
In 1985, the Water Tower was transferred to the Vinnytsia Regional Museum of Local Lore, which was located on the square of the Kozitsky Square. The museum includes expositions of the memorial of revolutionary and military glory. In 1993, in the Water Tower, the Museum was opened in memory of the soldiers of the Vinnitsa region, who died during the military operations (1979-1989) in Afghanistan.
The tower acquired its modern image in the 80s of the 19th century. The tower is still dominated by an authentic clock - chimes, which even today accurately measure the time and mark each new hour with a melodic ringing. There are several modern iron sculptures in the park at its foot.
Climbing to the upper platform of the tower, you can see the whole city at a glance.
