Description of the attraction
The original building, located at the intersection of Pobedy and Zhukova Avenues in Orenburg, is a historical landmark of the city. The building, created to purify water in the city, with a volume of just over eighty buckets, began to function in 1904. Providing Orenburg with drinking water, the tower became the first step towards industrialization and development of the region's economy.
The beautiful building of the water tower is located in the historic district of the city and was previously surrounded by one-story buildings of local residents. Until 1939, a dilapidated stone mill was located behind the tower. Nowadays, in close proximity to the historical tower there is a television center, the Orenburg Regional Philharmonic Society and, as an architectural contrast between modernity and history, the library building.
The water tower, preserved in its original form to this day and not functioning as a city drinking filter since 1946, is an architectural monument and city landmark. The well-lit intersection with the tower building at night makes Orenburg at night mysterious and more interesting for tourists. Now the tower is occupied by commercial structures, and a beer bar with a symbolic name is located in the basement.
