Description of the attraction

The Museum of the History of Ukraine was previously an archaeological exposition of the City Museum of Antiquity (now it is the National Art Museum). In 1904, this exposition received the status of a museum, which at first existed exclusively at the expense of patrons, but in 1909 the museum came under the wing of the state. At that time, the museum exhibited items that were found during excavations funded by the founders of the museum, as well as renowned archaeologists.

During its centenary existence, the museum has changed its location several times. In 1935, it was housed in the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, which was transformed into a museum town. However, after returning from the evacuation carried out during the Second World War, the Museum of the History of Ukraine was located in the former art school on Starokievskaya Gora, where it is located to this day.

Visitors to the National Museum of the History of Ukraine can get acquainted with the main milestones in the development of civilization on the territory of modern Ukraine, from antiquity to the present day. These are the remnants of the Trypillian culture, and the memorials left by the Polovtsy, the inhabitants of Kievan Rus, etc.

Placed in the halls of the Museum of the History of Ukraine and the rarest archaeological, ethnographic and numismatic collections. There are also ancient books, sculptures and paintings. In addition, not far from the museum you can see the remains of a unique historical monument - the foundation of the Tithe Church, which was at one time the first stone church on the territory of Kievan Rus (it was destroyed during the Mongol invasion).

Today the Museum of the History of Ukraine is one of the most visited places in Kiev. At the moment, the museum has about fifteen expositions, but this is only a small part of what is stored in the museum's storerooms.
