Description of the attraction
The Old Golutvin Monastery was founded in 1384 by Sergius of Radonezh and Dmitry Donskoy in honor of the victory over the Tatars. The first abbot was the Monk Gregory Golutvinsky. At the beginning of the twentieth century, for some time the rector was the Optina elder Barsanuphius until his death.
The monastery is located a few hundred meters from the confluence of the Moskva River and the Oka, on the arrow. The name comes either from a gang of robbers that lived in those places, or from the word "golutva" - a place bare from the forest. The monastery had a courtyard in Moscow - St. Nicholas Church in Golutvinsky Lane, near the metro station Oktyabrskaya.
The Epiphany Cathedral of the 17th century and the Church of St. Sergius of Radonezh, built in 1577, located on its territory, have not retained their original appearance. Later, a slender bell tower was erected with a gateway church of the Vvedenskaya. The unusual fence of the monastery was built in the 70s of the 18th century by M. F. Kozakov.
