Description of the attraction
In December 2008, to the east of the capital of Bangladesh, in the town of Sonargaon, a new landmark was opened - a copy of the Taj Mahal mausoleum. The construction was initiated by the well-known film producer Ahsanulla Moni. The purpose of the construction, he said, was the desire to show compatriots a wonderful architectural monument of India, because few people have enough money to go on a tour to Agra to see the original. The second reason for the construction was the desire of Ahsanullah Moni to attract tourists from all over the world to the country.
Taj Mahal is a mausoleum for the beloved wife of the Mongol Emperor Shah Jahan, Queen Mumtaz Mahal, who died in childbirth, built in the 17th century. After death, the body of the emperor was buried in the Taj Mahal next to his wife. The construction of this tomb lasted 20 years, about 22 thousand workers were involved.
A copy of the Taj Mahal was built in five years and cost $ 58 million. During the construction, valuable types of stone were used - Italian granite and marble, diamond finishing came from Belgium. A group of specialist architects and artists was sent to India to make copies of the painting, patterns and to clarify the dimensions. For the reliability of the landscape transfer, the copy of the Taj Mahal is surrounded by artificial reservoirs, because the Indian architectural miracle is located on the river bank.
During the construction work, the Indian authorities presented a note of protest to Bangladesh in connection with plagiarism, but soon concluded that no copy could compare with the original, and the conflict was settled.
