Description of the attraction
The football stadium in Guadalajara is called Omnilife and is the home arena of the Mexican football club Deportivo Guadalajara. Before the Omnilife was built, the team trained and played at Jalisco Stadium for almost 50 years. At first they wanted to call the stadium the nickname of the players of the Guadalajara team - "Estadio Chivas". But by the decision of the owner of the club, Jorge Vergara, who is one of the founders of the Omnilife company, the stadium was also named Omnilife.
Designed by the architects, the stadium resembles a volcano, which is probably aided by the local landscape. The stadium was opened on July 29, 2010. The opening ceremony was attended by the President of Mexico Felipe Calderon and representatives of FIFA. A day later, the first football match took place here - “Chivas” hosted “Manchester United” in a friendly match. The stadium hosts won that game with a score of 3: 2.
To understand the fundamental nature of this architectural miracle, you need to understand its dimensions. The pitch inside the arena measures 105 by 68 meters and is illuminated by 84 floodlights with a power of 593,400 watts. The height from the plane of the playground to the bottom of the roof is 41 m. The weight of the roof structures is 3300 tons. The matches are broadcast on two LED screens, which are six meters high. And another 865 plasma screens, much smaller in size, are located throughout the arena. Omnilife accommodates almost 50 thousand viewers.
It was designed by "Omnilife" by the famous French architect and designer Jean-Marie Massot. When creating the stadium, he tried to reunite nature and technology, adhering to the so-called "green philosophy". The football field and stands are located inside a green hill. The environmental friendliness of the operation of the stadium can be judged by the use of rainwater and energy-saving equipment. The parking lot for 8000 spaces is located at the base of the hill and is not visible from the outside. The retractable roof of the stadium resembles a cloud.
One of the famous games that the arena has hosted is the 2011 Pan American Games.
