Description of the attraction
The Historical Museum is a collection of exhibits that most fully reflect the history of Vietnam, numbering several millennia. Its beautiful building is located near the Botanical Garden and the Puppet Theater.
This museum, the oldest in the city, was opened in 1929 and during its existence has become one of the most famous museums in the state. A separate and very large section of the museum is devoted to the history of Vietnam in ancient times before the first Indo-Chinese war.
Unique archaeological exhibits represent all periods - from the primitive and the era of the founding of the first royal dynasties to the last imperial family of Nguyen, whose representatives ruled during the French colonization. The exposition contains many household items of residents and religious items. Among them is a very old sculpture of Buddha. It is considered a rare unique exhibit and a real adornment of the museum's collection. And the beauty of the collection of ancient ceramics can be appreciated not only by connoisseurs of pottery. The exposition of the museum has a section of 19th century mummies, which attracts, mainly, lovers of everything mysterious and unusual.
The second section of the museum introduces South Vietnam and life in the Mekong Delta. This section is devoted not only to Vietnam, but also to neighboring countries, historically, culturally, and, often, territorially interconnected in different periods of development.
From time to time, the territory of the museum becomes a platform for temporary exhibitions of historical themes. Alongside these open-air exhibitions, there are water puppet shows. Both are popular with viewers of all ages.
