Description of the attraction
Czech Prague Castle is one of the most amazing places in the capital city of Prague. You can spend a whole day looking at it and still not see much. One of the treasures of Prague Castle is considered a small dead end street, consisting entirely of small, like toy houses. It is called Golden, because, according to legend, alchemists settled here, making gold from materials completely unsuitable for this. But historically this is not true. In fact, gold miners and archers who served at the Grad lived here. A little later, the poor people, who had nothing to pay for the normal size of a house or room, took a fancy to small colorful colorful houses. I had to huddle in cramped, low rooms that went straight out onto the street.
However, not all residents of Golden Street thought that they were unlucky. One of the houses at number 22 is closely connected with the name of Franz Kafka, who came here to work - to write his stories, which were later included in the collection "The Country Doctor". He spoke very enthusiastically about his secluded house in letters to his bride. He liked to go straight out into the fresh snow on the street and lock the door of the house, not the apartment or room. But Kafka still could not spend the night here: the walls were crushing and did not allow him to exist normally. Therefore, in the evening he returned home to Dlouh Street.
The houses on Golden Street are now occupied by souvenir shops. The entrance to this corner of old Prague is paid, but after 6 pm the shops are closed, and the attendants go home, so you can walk along the Golden Street completely free of charge.
