Initially, the museum was housed in the building of the previously existing primary school in the village of Vylgort. The building occupied by the new museum is currently an architectural monument; it was built at the beginning of the 20th century according to the project of the architect A. V. Kholopov. The porch and the facade of the building are luxuriously decorated, because the national-romantic style was inherent precisely in the early 20th century - it is also called the "cock's style".

At the moment, the museum fund has 7,830 storage units with an exposition area of 346 sq. m. The expositions, which are constantly exhibited in the museum, are located in spacious halls.
