The Opera and Ballet Theater of the Komi Republic traces its history back to August 26, 1958. On this day in Syktyvkar the premiere screening of the musical performance "Eugene Onegin" by P. I. Tchaikovsky. The first artistic director of the theater is vocalist and actor B. Deineka. With his associates and colleagues, he created a close-knit team of professionals. This generation laid the foundation for a tradition of acting that is intertwined with the art of vocals.
Since the beginning of its existence, the theater has included in its repertoire the best examples of world ballet, opera and operetta classics, works of contemporary domestic and foreign composers. Many productions of the theater were awarded all-Union and state awards.
The theater toured different cities of the country. These are Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, Tver, Bryansk, Kremenchug, Poltava, Ufa, Orenburg and others. Well-known conductors have successfully worked with the theatrical collective: V. P. Kaplun-Vladimirsky, V. Malakhov, N. Klaus, Yu. Proskurov; directors: I. Orlovsky, K. Vasiliev, I. Bobrakova and choreographers: G. Vakhovsky, L. Bordzilovskaya, L. Flegmatov, B. Myagkov and others. Throughout the entire period of its existence, the theater was rich in creative individuals. Among them are Y. Glavatsky, G. Kuznetsovskaya, V. Mikhailov, Y. Fomin and others.
In 1969 the theater moved to a new building, which became the basis for its further creative growth. At the same time, the theater began to exist separately from the musical and drama theater and became an independent collective. In 1960, the opera "The Thunderstorm over Ust-Kulom" by G. Dekhtyarov was staged. In subsequent years, operas were staged on the stage: "On Ilych" by Y. Perepelitsa, "Domna Kalikov" by B. Archimandritov, operettas: "My Village" by P. Chistalev, "No Pooh, No Feather" by Y. Perepelitsa, musical legend Syudbei's necklace "M. Hertzman, ballets:" The Snow Queen "," Voypel ". The classic of national art is the ballet "Yag-Mort" by Y. Perepelitsa, staged in 1961.
Today the theater pays great attention to young and talented composers - in December 1998, to the music of I. Blinnikova, they staged a musical for children "Grishunya on the Planet of Shagmatics", and in 2000 - "New Year's Adventures of the French Witch Madeleine".
Currently, the theater is a creative center with a high level of artistic and musical culture and memorable performances, including: the operas "Eugene Onegin", "The Queen of Spades", "Iolanta" by P. Tchaikovsky; the operas "Rigoletto", "Othello", " La Traviata "by G. Verdi," Mermaid "by A. Dargomyzhsky, as well as masterpieces of world choreography: ballet" Nutcracker "," Swan Lake "," Sleeping Beauty "by P. Tchaikovsky, Sylphide" by H. Levenshold, "Don Quixote" by L. Minkus, "The Firebird" by I. Stravinsky, "Giselle" by A. Adam. The repertoire of this theater includes the best classical operettas: "Mister X", "My Fair Lady", "The Merry Widow", "Don Juan in Seville", "Maritza", "The Bat" and others. Particular attention is paid to young spectators in the theater. Traditionally, one or two performances are staged for children every season.
The Syktyvkar Opera and Ballet Theater has become a notable Russian theater, where ballet and opera stars of Europe and Russia perform with pleasure. This is noticeable in the annual festivals: "Syktyvkar Spring" and "Golden Swallows". I. Bobrakova is the permanent organizer and director of the festival of ballet and opera art "Syktyvkar Spring". This festival in 1997 became the Laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The festival of ballet art of the Finno-Ugric regions "Golden Swallows" is quite young, but already enjoys great success among local residents. It is headed by the Moscow ballet critic N. Sadovskaya. It is thanks to such festivals that the audience of Syktyvkar can enjoy the art of opera stars: I. Bogacheva, V. Piavko, A. Dedik, V. Shcherbakova, T. Erastovoyts, G. Hadanyan; outstanding masters of choreography: N. Dolgushina, A. Antonicheva, Kaye Kyrb, Viesturs Jansons, P. Speranskaya, I. Ivanova, J. Ayupov, G. Taranda and O. Pavlova and many others.
