Description of the attraction

The Opera and Ballet Theater is the main attraction, as well as one of the architectural monuments of the city of Dnepropetrovsk. The opera house was founded in 1931. During the Great Patriotic War (in 1941) the opera house was evacuated to the city of Krasnoyarsk. During these events, the Dnepropetrovsk Opera House merged with the Odessa troupe, and after the end of the war it officially ceased its activities.

The end of 1974, namely December 28 of this year, became a new era for the revival of the theater. This date can be called a new birthday of the great Dnepropetrovsk ballet. In honor of such a grandiose event, the young team of the theater demonstrated their version of the famous work of the composer P. I. Tchaikovsky "Swan Lake". Thanks to the founders of the theater (Mark Litvinenko, Anatoly Arefiev, Petr Varivoda, Vasily Kiose, Lyudmila Voskresenskaya), a unique troupe with a wealth of experience in creative possibilities was assembled.

With the first season, two main directions in the theater's repertoire sphere were determined: the development and dissemination of the music of Soviet composers, as well as the staging of the best example of the classical heritage. The collective goes on tour a lot and successfully and performs on the capital stages of Kiev and Moscow.

A very important event in the biography of the Opera and Ballet Theater was the award in March 2003 of the high and obliging title of the "Academic Opera and Ballet Theater", as well as an encouraging addition to it in 2004. was the opening of a branch of the Kharkov Conservatory in the city of Dnepropetrovsk.

The square near the Opera and Ballet Theater is always very crowded and cheerful, especially in the evening, when the building is beautifully illuminated.
