Description of the attraction

The Roman Catholic chapel Burgstein, consecrated in honor of the Virgin Mary, is located outside the city of Längenfeld in a very picturesque location. To get to it, heading from Längenfeld, you need to go along a metal suspension bridge with a length of 83 meters, thrown over the valley at an altitude of 220 meters. Despite the abyss opening underfoot, the bridge is stormed every day by hundreds of tourists who want to see the neat Tyrolean chapel. The road to the Burgstein Chapel was recently paved and is suitable for tourists even without much physical training.

The Virgin Mary Chapel is located in the eastern part of the valley, on a small plateau. It was built around 1670. The rectangular sacred building with a steep gable roof is decorated with a wooden turret with a bulb-shaped pommel. The turret overlooking the roof is a bell tower. On the façade, you can see a modest crucifix placed over a small square window. This is perhaps the only exterior decoration.

The Burgstein Chapel remains active. Its only room is decorated with lunettes in the early Baroque style and stucco in the form of flower garlands. The dominant feature of the interior is the altar, carved in the late Baroque style by the carpenter Cassian Getsch. The altarpiece of the Virgin Mary, dated 1682, is called miraculous; hundreds of pilgrims come to worship him. In the temple, you can also see two Baroque canvases. One depicts Saint Peter and Saint Margaret, and the other depicts Saint George and Saint Michael. They were written by Georg Helrigl in 1677 and 1678.
