Description of the attraction
Bruck an der Mur is an Austrian city located in the federal state of Styria. The city was founded in 1263 by the King of Bohemia Otokar II.
Brook an der Mur was an important medieval trading center specializing in metal work. The unique old 17th century well with a twisted wrought-iron canopy, located on the central square of the city, reminds of this. The town hall with vaulted galleries is located nearby.
In the parish church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, there is a wrought-iron door to the sacristy of 1500 - a unique example of the work of local blacksmiths.
Since the 15th century, the city has a beautiful Gothic cathedral, Ruprechkirche, decorated with a fresco on the theme of the Last Judgment (16th century). It is located next to the city cemetery, not far from the historic city center. In the center is also the famous Kornmeserhaus, a Venetian-style building built in the 15th century for a wealthy ironmonger.
In 1792, a terrible fire broke out in the city, in which 166 houses burned down, including the Landskron Castle. However, a very picturesque panorama of the city opens from the ruins of the castle, located at the Schlosberg hill.
Old buildings are located on the main square of the city, which are an interesting tourist attraction.
Due to its good location between Mariazzel and Graz, Brook an der Mur is convenient for tourists traveling in Austria.
