Description of the attraction

The Akshardham Temple, located in Gandhinagar, is one of the largest in the entire Indian state of Gujarat. This is a whole complex, which is not only a significant religious building, but also plays an important role as a cultural, scientific and research center, where people come not only to pray, but also to visit exhibitions, seminars, and learn something new.

The Akshardham temple in Gandhinagar was created quite recently - in 1992, and is a kind of predecessor of the famous Delhi Akshardham, which was built by the same religious organization Bochasanvasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha.

The complex consists of the temple itself, a huge garden and a research center. The main attraction of Akshardham is rightfully considered a two-meter gilded statue of the Hindu God Shwaminarayana, the so-called Murti. It is located in the center of a kind of temple-pavilion, the construction of which took about six thousand tons of pink sandstone. It is 33 meters high, 73 meters long and 40 meters wide. And the colonnade erected around it stretches for 534 meters.

The beautiful garden that houses the temple is called Sarajanand Wan and is a mixture of a lush garden and a children's park. It has rides, a lake and a waterfall.

On the territory of the research center there is a large library, study section and archive. There are also several exhibitions operating on a permanent basis: Sahajanand, Sat-Chit-Anand, Nityanand, where you can see paintings, photographs, dioramas, watch films about India.

Akshardham temple complex is visited by about 2 million tourists annually.
