Description of the attraction
The Great Temple and, located nearby, the Temple of Neptune are attractions that are always popular among tourists traveling to the towns of Croatia. Interesting ancient architecture will delight the eye of even the most selective traveler, and the picturesque nature around will not leave anyone indifferent.
The Great Temple was erected at the beginning of the first century, it is located in the north-west of Marafor Square. This square is the oldest and largest square in Porec and is always included in the excursion program of visiting this city. In ancient times, the Roman Forum was located on it, now only fragments of those structures have survived. On the square you will also see a small fountain with a sculpture of a lovely baby. Dekumanus Street starts from Marafor Square, which is worth a walk for curious tourists - here you will see a lot of interesting things. Only a small part of the walls and facade of the Great Temple has survived to our time. For many years it was considered one of the largest in the Adriatic.
The Temple of Neptune is located in a park in the western part of Marafor Square. Some separate fragments of this ancient structure have been preserved, which is dedicated to Neptune - the god of the seas, about whom many interesting legends have been written.
