Description of the attraction
The Museum of History and Local Lore, located in the center of Tuapse, is one of the cultural attractions of this region. Near the museum there is a wooden church in the name of the Metropolitan of Moscow and All Russia, Saint Alexy, and in front of the very entrance there is an ancient dolmen.
The museum was founded in February 1946 by the decision of the Tuapse Executive Committee. The first archaeological excavations in the Tuapse region were started by the museum in the 1950s. They were supervised by Professor N. V. Anfimova.
The exposition presents visitors to all stages of the city's development. This museum has three exhibition halls with a total area of 505 sq. M. The museum possesses valuable collections, among which ethnographic, archaeological and numismatic collections occupy a special place.
Having visited the archaeological exposition, guests of the local history museum can get acquainted in more detail with the complex of finds from the Zikh burial ground Sopino, the early Middle Ages; complex of the tomb of Psybe, early bronze, last quarter of the 3rd millennium BC; see a collection of tools of labor of primitive people, Paleolithic.
The ethnographic collection is represented by clothes, furniture, household items, accessories, musical instruments of the Circassians of the late 19th - 20th centuries, household items and tools of the migrants - Ukrainians, Russians, Moldovans, Armenians of the late 19th - early 20th centuries; personal belongings and uniforms of officers and soldiers of the Red Army.
As for the numismatic collection, here you can see antique coins, premium coins of the 19th century, commemorative coins of the anniversary, various award medals and much more. Also, the Tuapse Museum of History and Local Lore stores important documents reflecting the history of the city.
Museum visitors have the opportunity to view special expositions from the museum funds: "Butterfly - a fluttering flower", "Shells and corals". For the 55th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War, a re-exhibition was held - "Tuapse defensive operation", which attracted the attention of many people.
