One of the top ten airports in Germany serves the city of Hanover. The airport is located about 11 kilometers from the city center, in the city of Langenhagen. Accordingly, its official name is Hannover-Langenhagen Airport.
The airport is the second in terms of the number of air lines to the cities of Eastern Europe, the first place is occupied by the airport in Frankfurt. History
The history of the airport begins in 1945, when it was decided to create a civil airport on the basis of a military airfield. Work on the conversion of a military airfield into a civilian one began in 1950. The new airport was supposed to be a backup for the current Hanover-Fahrenwald airport. It was subsequently closed due to the impossibility of expansion.
The first construction work began only at the end of 1951, after almost six months the airport was put into operation.
The first international flights began to operate to Mallorca and the Costa Brava in 1956. In the same year, a regular flight Hamburg-Hanover-Frankfurt was introduced. In 1957, Hannover Airport already had over 130 charter flights.
