Description of the attraction

Knysna Elephant Park is located next to the resort town of Plettenberg Bay on the Garden Route (Garden Route). Located 10 km east of the city, the Elephant Park is a rehabilitation center for orphaned elephants. The park is considered the second largest South African tourist attraction, with over 90,000 visitors a year.

The surrounding Knysna indigenous forests were once home to a herd of elephants that roamed freely in their natural habitat. Due to human intervention over the years, the number of elephants has dropped from 500 to three, which are believed to have remained in the vicinity.

The Elephant Park was founded in 1994 to restore the elephant population in the Knysna forests as a shelter for young orphaned elephants. The park offers its guests a unique opportunity to take a walk with a herd of elephants. Visitors can observe the life of elephants up close. Here you can see how they sleep, play, communicate with each other.

The park offers daily excursions where visitors can learn a little more about the elephants, feed them and take pictures with them with their own hands. Similar events are held every hour throughout the day. Here you can also stay overnight in the spacious and luxurious rooms "Elephant Lodge" overlooking the sleeping place of elephants, and at sunset and sunrise take an elephant ride. However, for such a "safari", the application must be made in advance.

There is a restaurant on the territory of the park where you can have breakfast, lunch or drink a cup of aromatic tea. There is also a gift shop offering a wide variety of goods.
