Description of the attraction
The island of Tavira is located slightly south of the city of Tavira, a few hundred meters. The island is 11 km long and its width varies from 150 m to 1 km. The island has many beaches that are considered the best beaches in the Algarve. It is worth noting that the island has beaches for nudists. For example, such a beach is Praia do Barril.
Tavira Island is part of the Ria Formosa Natural Park, famous for its unique flora and fauna. The island is also a favorite destination for bird watchers - those who enjoy watching birds in nature. You can get to the island by ferry or small boats.
Praia do Barril beach has an international Blue Flag award - a certificate of quality of the beach, which speaks of cleanliness, as well as safety of swimming. In addition, this beach is famous for the cemetery of old anchors "Cemiterio das Ancoras".
There are many restaurants on the island where you can enjoy the delights of Portuguese cuisine.
For camping lovers, there are campsites here that attract more and more visitors every year. There is usually a supermarket, bar and barbecue area on site. And on the beaches there are playgrounds for children and adults, amateur football, handball or volleyball tournaments are held.
