Costa Brava is a Spanish resort area on the Mediterranean Sea, stretching 160 km along the northeastern coast of Catalonia. The Costa Brava is popular with tourists due to its magnificent nature, unique climate, perfect infrastructure and an abundance of attractions - both historical and cultural. All this splendor is located on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, and in the Costa Brava its coastline looks very picturesque. Rocky cliffs alternate with cozy sandy bays, and wide bays are framed by pine groves that come to the very edge of the water.

The season at sea in the Costa Brava begins in the second half of May, when the water warms up to + 17 ° С - + 19 ° С, and in the air, mercury columns steadily rise to + 25 ° С by noon. Summer is hottest in August, but even a 30-degree temperature can be tolerated relatively easily, thanks to the sea breezes and the freshness of the water. Thermometers at sea rarely show temperatures above + 26 ° C, and therefore water procedures pleasantly refresh the Catalan tourist.

Choosing a beach

Many resort areas of the Costa Brava boast the prestigious Blue Flag - the distinction that is customary in Europe to celebrate the cleanest beaches. Choosing a place to stay on the Catalan coast, a tourist can count on any kind of beach coverage - from sandy to rocky, and on a hotel that is suitable for him both in terms of comfort and cost of living:

  • The picturesque bay of Cala Estreta, near the beach of Es Castel, is a true natural wonder. The beach itself is also one of the top 10 most beautiful swimming spots in the Iberian Peninsula.
  • Aiguablava is perfect for a family vacation. Firstly, the beach is covered with fine and clean sand. Secondly, the entrance to the water at Aygublava is shallow, and even inexperienced swimmers will feel safe. The beach is protected from strong winds by rocky coasts of the bay, which also serve as natural breakwaters.
  • Young people will love the town of Lloret de Mar. The beaches of this resort turn into dance floors in the evenings, but during the day there are many entertainment establishments in the town. In addition, Lloret de Mar offers ideal conditions for practicing all kinds of water sports.
  • If you love to sunbathe away from the noisy crowds, head to Cala Futadera Bay. The bay of Cala Bona is no less cozy, and in Sa Boadeia you can even enjoy the sun without bathing suits.
  • Fans of waves and surfing should choose San Pedro Pescador. On the beaches of this resort, the sea is often worried.

All official recreation areas of resorts on the Costa Brava are landscaped and equipped with everything necessary for guests. The beaches are equipped with changing rooms, toilets, showers, cafes and equipment rental for sunbathing and active entertainment.

The entrance to the beaches of the Costa Brava is almost everywhere free, but for renting an umbrella, sunbed or sun lounger, you will have to pay a few euros to the tenants of the part of the seashore where you decide to stay.

Children's holidays on the Costa Brava

Most of the small tourists can be found in the resort of Blanes. Its beaches are ideal for families with children of all ages. The former fishing village has evolved over the past decades into a modern resort, ideal for a family vacation.

The central beach or Playa de Blanes is more than half a kilometer of fine sand, warm sea and all the amenities for guests. Lifeguards work on the beach, pedal boats are rented, sun loungers are rented.

Another suitable vacation spot for parents with children is S'Abanell Beach in Blanes. It stretches for 3 km. in its many cafes you will find the best Spanish cuisine. It is on S'Abanel that the largest number of souvenir shops is located.

San Francisco Beach in Cala Bona Bay is a wonderful place to sunbathe and swim with the little ones. Not far from the beach is the Marimurta Botanical Garden, where you can spend the hottest part of the day, enjoying the pleasant coolness in the shade of the most beautiful alleys.

If the sea and sunburn are a little bored, go for a new portion of entertainment: south of Blanes you will find the Marineland water park, next to Lloret de Mar is the Water World water park, and in Playa de Aro, both parents and children will love the attractions at Pp's Park.
