While vacationing on the Costa Brava, be sure to go to Girona - the city, from the very name of which the sun blows, Hemingway and Salvador Dali. It is better to go on a trip on your own, then there is a high probability of meeting something unexpected and curious on the way. For example, the city of Pals.
Pals is a very small, almost toy town, in contrast to most cities on the Catalan coast - extremely quiet and almost empty due to the fact that it is located a little deeper from the coast. Its population is less than three thousand people.
The light stone, from which all the buildings of Pals are laid out with uneven medieval masonry, for several centuries of its existence seemed to have absorbed all the sun of Catalonia.
When you get to Pals, you get the feeling that you have dropped out of ordinary time and space and found yourself in a different world. The houses of the Gothic quarter with fancy medieval windows, turrets, cozy balconies in flowers and greenery - and almost no one, as if everyone here had been waiting for you for a long time, and managed to hide before arriving. But don't worry: residents, cozy restaurants, and small souvenir shops will surely meet you on your way. You will be served delicious food and your credit card will be accepted everywhere. But back to Pals. The town is located on a hill. Narrow medieval streets, paved with stone and twisted like a labyrinth, lead up to an 11th century Romanesque tower. The tower is what remains of a castle that was once located in Pals and was later dismantled. It is called the clock tower, since a bell was installed at the top, which announced the beginning and end of the working day.
Another attraction of the city is the Gothic Church of Sant Pere in the central square, with narrow windows and multicolored stained-glass windows and pleasant coolness inside, which welcomes you even on the hottest day. Behind the temple is an observation deck that offers a wonderful view of the entire suburb.
Not far from Pals is a 4 km long beach where you can experience all the pleasures of a seaside holiday with the usual amenities and beach activities. There are also cozy hotels in Pals and the surrounding area, which will make it possible to spend time in complete comfort.
