South American Venezuela is not the closest light for organizing beach tours from Russia. But besides the sea and white sand, it offers the traveler many other beauties: the highest waterfall on the planet, mountains with condors soaring above, the ancient colonial architecture of cities founded by conquistadors, and national parks where you can meet funny and rare representatives of our smaller brothers. It turns out that a beach vacation in Venezuela can be combined with an active and educational one, and this is a completely different story, and an air flight to the other end of the world will not seem too long and expensive in this case.
Where to go to sunbathe?
The best beach holidays in Venezuela are Margarita Island and Los Roques archipelago:
- There are many songs about Margarita, which are sung to tourists by local musical groups in restaurants and at hotels, hinting at tips. This island, 40 km from the coast, is the main tourist Mecca of the country. More than a hundred hotels and three hundred kilometers of white bounty-style beaches attract here rows of guests who dream of drowning in the generous Caribbean sun.
- North of mainland Venezuela, there are more than three hundred islands of Las Roques, formed by corals and separated by the turquoise waters of the lagoons. Divers fly here, because the coral reef protects the archipelago from strong currents, making diving safe and especially spectacular.
Choosing where it is better to stay, do not doubt the stars declared by the hotels. The level of service of hotels in Venezuela always corresponds to their class. Reviews of predecessors and photos will help you find the best option in terms of the location of the hotel.
Weather features of a beach holiday in Venezuela
The country's climate is determined by the seasonal movement of air masses and the proximity to the equator. The coastal areas are most often affected by the sweltering humid heat: the rainy season here lasts from May to November.
The temperature almost does not change during the year and is about + 28 ° С both in winter and in summer. In the sea, thermometers show about the same or slightly less, and therefore the swimming season in Venezuela lasts all year round.
If rest on the beaches is supposed to be combined with sightseeing of natural attractions, it is worth choosing the rainy period for the trip. Then the waterfalls of Venezuela are especially deep and picturesque.
All covered with greenery …
You can get to Margarita by plane from Caracas. The island airport is located 20 km from the Porlamar resort and flights from different cities of the country land there. The second option is a ferry leaving from the ports of Cumana and Puerto la Cruz on the mainland. The boats arrive not only in Porlamar, but also in the city of Punta de Piedras, 30 km west of it.
Most of the 300 km of beaches in Margarita are located in the vicinity of Porlamar. Almost all of them have a sandy surface and can belong to the hotels near which they are located, or be municipal, like the city's Bella Vista. The most quiet, family-friendly beach awaits guests in the southeast of the resort and is called Valdes. Surfers and water enthusiasts will love the eastern part of Porlamar, across the street from El Morro Lagoon. This beach is located on the open ocean and attracts active and sporty solid waves.
In their free time from enjoying the sea and the sun, Margarita's guests enjoy fish restaurants and shopping. The basis of the menu of any catering establishment on the island is seafood and fresh fish, and therefore at the local resorts there is a chance to gorge yourself on lobsters and shrimps, try a shark or hammerhead steak.
When it comes to shopping, Porlamar has the status of a free trade port and invites its guests to shop without VAT. World famous brands coexist in shopping centers with handicrafts of local craftsmen, and therefore every traveler will be able to find their souvenir at the resort.
The prices for hotels on Margarita can hardly be called low, but if you approach the issue thoughtfully, you can book a tour to a family hotel, where you will not have to risk your budget a lot.
Sunsets at the old lighthouse
The Las Roques archipelago is clearly visible on the map of the Caribbean Sea just opposite Caracas. Formed by hundreds of tiny coral islets, it boasts ideal white beaches. But there are no luxury hotels in the resort, and in the recreation area in the northeast of the archipelago, one will be able to enjoy unity with nature rather than "break away" in the usual resort sense. The status of a national park does not allow the construction of many large hotel zones on the territory of the archipelago.
But Las Roques is ready to offer:
- Luxury diving and the most interesting dive site is an underwater rock in the northeast of the main island.
- Sea fishing for barracuda and mackerel from a boat or yacht.
- Perfect kiting, safe enough even for beginners.
- Diving to the sunken old ships.
- Snorkeling in lagoons surrounded by mangroves.
There is also an old lighthouse on the main island of the archipelago, where you can climb at sunset. The views of the sea and lagoons are stunning. and even professional panoramic photos cannot capture the splendor of the Caribbean.
You can only get to the Las Roques resort with the help of local aviation. The airport is built near Gran Roque on the main island of the archipelago.
