Description of the attraction

The observation tower in Gomel is one of the most mysterious architectural structures. In general, the old city park in Gomel is full of unsolved mysteries.

There is an official version, proposed by local scholars of local lore. They believe that this tower is the former pipe of a sugar factory built in the 19th century on the territory of the estate of I. F. Paskevich.

In 1775-96, the estate was owned by Field Marshal P. A. Rumyantsev-Zadunaisky. He dreamed of building a noble school on the territory of his estate, however, due to the death of the field marshal, his intentions were never realized, and the next owner, I. F. Paskevich was a man of a practical mind and was more concerned about his welfare, and not about teaching young people. He decided to rebuild the already built school buildings and open a sugar factory. It was then that this 40-meter pipe was built. During a major fire, the plant burned down, and the remains of the buildings were demolished. The pipe was converted into an observation tower, and the remaining intact building next to the tower was converted into a winter garden.

This version leaves many questions: why was the pipe built 40 meters high? Why is she sticking right out of the ground? Why is the pipe lined with colored brickwork? Why are the windows made in it? It can be assumed that the upper observation deck was completed later, but it is noticeable that the windows in it were made at the time the pipe was erected, and not cut later. In addition, dungeons were found under the hill on which this mysterious tower rises. Scientists do not deny the possibility that the dungeons are part of a secret underground passage system, however, they cannot yet give answers to other questions.
