Description of the attraction

The Museum of Sex and Sexual Cultures of the World, which opened in 1999 in Kharkov, is a unique and one-of-a-kind museum in Ukraine that conducts educational and awareness-raising programs in this area.

The opening of the museum was initiated by the staff of the Department of Sexology of the Kharkov Medical Academy. Who should visit this museum and why? Firstly, the museum is designed for couples and young people who are just about to get married. Secondly, the museum staff have developed special educational programs for adolescents, a separate exhibition dedicated to the sex education of children has been opened, which can be visited by young people aged 15 years and older. For the rest of the halls, the age limit is 18 years.

The Museum of Sexual Cultures of the World is based on the collections of the private collection of Professor Valentin Krishtal. So, here you can find materials about the sexual traditions of the peoples of different parts of our planet - from Europe, Africa, America and ending with the eastern countries - Japan, China. Initially, the museum consisted of only 3 halls, where the history of human sexology from ancient times to the present day was presented. However, now the museum has eight halls, each of which reflects the culture of a particular country.

In the museum, you can see an extensive collection of photographs and even comics that reflect the frozen moments of the life of a particular people. There are also many paintings depicting women, the most popular of which are reproductions of paintings by Pablo Picasso and Edouard Monet. A separate exposition presents an exhibition dedicated to the sexual relations of animals.
