The Murillo House Museum is one of the most popular places to visit in Seville. This is the house where the outstanding Spanish painter Murillo spent the last years of his life. The house-museum was created in 1972 and opened in 1982 - in the year of the bicentennial of the painter's death.
A native of Seville, Esteban Bartolomeo Murillo was one of the most prominent representatives of Seville painting of the "golden age". Murillo began to study painting from childhood, his teachers at different times were such great masters as Velazquez, Alonso Cano, Zurbaran.
He painted several churches and monasteries, including the Monastery of St. Augustine and the Monastery of San Francisco El Grande, his brush belongs to many paintings, a number of canvases with images of the Madonna - in this genre his talent was most vividly revealed. Murillo was even called the "painter of the Madonnas".
The artist's house-museum is a two-storey building, which is an architectural and historical monument and located on St. Teresa Street. The house is located in a picturesque location and is surrounded by beautiful green trees. The museum managed to partially preserve, partially recreate the atmosphere that prevailed here during the artist's life. Examining the premises of the museum, it seems that you are as if transported to several centuries ago, so the atmosphere of the house is saturated with the spirit of that time. The interiors of the living room, kitchen, and the artist's bedroom have been perfectly preserved. Here you can see a lot of silverware, dishes, household items.
