Description of the attraction
Built in 1947, Louis Barragán's house is an example of modernist and minimalist architecture. It is located in the small town of Takabuya, not far from Mexico City. There are 10 rooms inside the house, there is even a dressing room after horse rides, which the architect himself was very fond of doing in the garden located right next to the house. The total area of the site is 2000 sq. m.
The house was included in the list of World Heritage Sites, it is one of a kind in Latin America received this title. Today, this three-story unique is a museum, which attracts architects and simply curious people from all over the world.
Barragan's house is located at the end of one of the quiet streets of Takabuya. Outwardly, its walls do not stand out, merging, but the unusual surroundings are given out by a white tower and an outstanding window.
The windows overlook the garden, and the trees are so close to them that, looking out into the courtyard, one gets the impression that we are in a garden, which is one with the building. Visitors enter the hallway from the darkened corridor. It has an invariable Mexican attribute: a chair next to the phone.
Prone to voyeurism, the artist placed large mercury balls in each room, where he could see the whole room. It is also noteworthy that the house has an unusual lighting system. There are almost no ceiling lamps here. Small lamps are placed on tables and other furniture.
The arrangement of furniture inside strictly corresponds to ledges, corners and openings in the walls. Each chair, pouf, sofa has its own place. Furniture, as it were, continues the house, the house continues the garden, the garden merges with the seemingly peaceful street, and so on. The idea of a fortress house, a refuge house, permeates every corner of this minimalist work of art of the 20th century.
