Description of the attraction
The monument perpetuates the memory of the outstanding Ukrainian football player and coach Valeriy Lobanovskiy, who was an international star. It was installed just near the entrance to the Dynamo stadium, which was associated with the career of this remarkable man. The sculpture turned out to be very thoughtful: Lobanovsky sits on the bench in his well-known tense posture, as if watching the course of the match.
The pedestal of the monument, which is a giant soccer ball, which reminds some tourists of the globe, is also extremely original. Part of the pedestal is made of glass, behind which is a screen showing episodes from the life of Valery Vasilyevich.
Another remarkable detail of the monument is the watch on Valery Lobanovsky's hand - the arrows on them indicate the time of his death. At the same time, the sculptural composition is made in such a way that those who wish could not only pay tribute to the memory of the great coach, but also plunge into his world or just sit next to him on a bench.
The author of the project of the monument and the initiator of its installation was the now popular sculptor Vladimir Filatov. In addition to him, several more people were involved in the preparation of the monument, including the talented portrait painter Oleg Cherno-Ivanov and the architect Vasily Klimenko. The relatives and friends of Valery Lobanovsky were also interviewed, whose wishes they tried to fully implement.
The main materials from which the monument was made were bronze, acrylic, stainless steel and granite; the total weight reaches five tons.
The opening ceremony of the monument was held on May 11, 2003 in the presence of several thousand connoisseurs of Valery Vasilyevich's talent, as well as Dynamo Kiev players, UEFA representatives and statesmen.
